Local beach makes most colourful places in the world list

South Africa may have been dubbed many things under the sun but one thing is for sure, the country prides itself on flying the flag high up when it comes to its colourful people and attractions.

And the latest accolade is being included in CNN’s compilation of colourful places in the world that affirms what we already know when it comes to our country’s attractions – after all, we are known to be a rainbow nation.

Ranked at number 2 on the list of 25 world’s most bright colourful places, SA’s Muizenberg beach surpassed places found in the Tokyo, Arizona, Italy and France to name a few – see full list here

It says “Muizenberg’s colourful beach huts don’t need an Instagram filter to dazzle”.

Known as a shallow beach with warm water during the time of winter, according to Cape Town tourism, the Muizenberg region is more than just a summer destination. It offers great family fun and learning to surf has become the number one activity on the jam-packed beachfront, even during winter.

If you move away from the beach you will discover some quirky characters in this distinctly bohemian seaside village.

In fact, the easiest way to familiarise yourself with the region is to join Moonlight Meander with the locals and enjoy a safe, fun-filled evening walking on the beautiful Muizenberg Blue Flag beach in the light of the full moon on Saturday

The series continues throughout the year in partnership with the Muizenberg Precinct Neighbourhood Watch Association.

Meet at the Safer Together table in front of Knead Bakery at Surfer’s Corner on Beach Road, Muizenberg at 18:00. The walk starts at 18:15 on the corner in front of the bakery, which stays open especially for Meander Saturday evenings.

There is ample parking for participants, and roaming car guards will be on duty. Alcohol is not permitted on the beach, but dogs are a welcome provided they are on leashes.
