Miss South Africa crowned 2019 Miss Universe

Zozibini Tunzi was crowned Miss Universe Sunday night after excelling through rounds of swimsuit and evening gown struts, questions on social issues and one final chance to explain why she was the right choice.

“I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me — with my kind of skin and my kind of hair — was never considered to be beautiful,” she said in her last response. “I think it is time that that stops today. I want children to look at me and see my face and I want them to see their faces reflected in mine.”

African tech boffins gather in Lagos to shape the continent’s digital path

LAGOS – Last week 12 technology start-ups from across Africa were in Lagos, Nigeria, for the Google Launchpad Start-up Week, vying for attention from potential investors, and wise words from previous participants of the accelerator class.

Twitter CEO Wants To Move To Africa, Which Will “Define The Future”

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey plans to move to Africa next year for three to six months, he said after a month-long trip to entrepreneurial hubs on the continent.

“Sad to be leaving the continent…for now,” Dorsey tweeted. “Africa will define the future (especially the bitcoin one!). Not sure where yet, but I’ll be living here for 3-6 months mid 2020. Grateful I was able to experience a small part.”

He has spent the month of November visiting entrepreneurs in Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa.

Improving women’s lot in Africa will also improve its GDP

Correcting gender imbalances and improving rights for women is now an economic imperative, write Lohini Moodley, Tania Holt and Acha Leke
