African tech boffins gather in Lagos to shape the continent’s digital path

LAGOS – Last week 12 technology start-ups from across Africa were in Lagos, Nigeria, for the Google Launchpad Start-up Week, vying for attention from potential investors, and wise words from previous participants of the accelerator class.

Old cars remodeled into contemporary furniture

A Nigerian-Ghanaian artist is redefining the furniture industry in Nigeria.

Experimental artist, Diseye Tantua is creating unconventional furniture using car parts from the ’90s.

A bed made from a Mercedez Benz 200 series among other projects can be found in his art studio in Port Harcout.

The 44-year-old, hopes his pieces will help preserve the history and memories that he believes are found in the pre-loved vehicles.

Using scrap metal to sculpt a better future for himself

The only thing more creative than Pilato Bulala’s inventions is how he describes them. His yellow aircraft? It’s a scrapture – a word Bulala coined for his impressive sculptures made from scrap material. The impressive model, built from zinc sheets and wire mesh, is just a taste of this artist’s repertoire. In the village of Tshivhuyuni in Limpopo, Bulala has established a reputation for his creativity despite his limited resources and visual impairment. The maroon bakkie in his yard bears his mantra in bold painted letters – NEVER GIVE UP.
